SDCC: Machete Sequels Announced

Robert Rodriguez just took to the Hall H stage at the San Diego Comic-Con to reveal that Machete is set to return to theaters with two sequels (as have been teased since the very first Grindhouse faux-trailer).
"Both 'Machete' sequels have been greenlit," says Rodriguez, though he added that the first one is currently the only one guaranteed to have a full-length film involved. The third will exist (for the time being) only in trailer form.
To be titled Machete Kills, the sequel will include fake footage for the third film, now titled Machete Kills Again... In Space!. Rodriguez promises that it will include space babes and a lightsaber style weapon.
No further details are currently available, but Danny Trejo is certain to return to the title role.

It was announced earlier this week that Robert Rodriguez is planning an April shoot for Machete Kills, which will return Danny Trejo to the character he played in a fake trailer featured in Grindhouse and then the 2010 feature Machete. We now have a look at sales art that was made to promote the film at the European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin this week.

The new film is said to have Machete teaming with the U.S. Government to take on a Mexican drug cartel and a James Bond-style villain who seeks world domination with a satellite weapon.

Mel Gibson Joins Machete Kills

Things are moving steadily forward on Robert Rodriguez's Machete Kills as Deadline reports that Mel Gibson is close to joining the cast and The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Rodriguez hopes to fully direct the sequel to the 2010 film (which he co-directed with Ethan Maniquis).
Gibson's potential role is currently undisclosed but his name has been rumored for some time.
Rodriguez, meanwhile, says that the current plan is to shoot the totality of the sequel himself but that, depending on scheduling with Sin City: A Dame to Kill For, he may turn to another director for help.
"There’s so much of it that I want to direct I’ll probably end up directing the whole thing,” Rodriguez said, “But if I have to step off, I’m going to try and shoot all of the actors and all of the main sequences. But it’s such a fun movie, and it just came out even more fun than I could have imagined.”

Robert Rodriguez („Planet Terror“, „Sin City“, „From Dusk Till Dawn“), der Meister des schrill-rasanten Exploitation-Actionkinos, gelang mit der Fortsetzung seiner Filmreihe rund um den gnadenlosen Mexikaner Machete erneut ein Casting-Coup: Neben Danny Trejo („Machete“, „Predators“), Jessica Alba („Sin City“) und Michelle Rodriguez („Resident Evil: Retribution“) spielen diesmal u.a. Mel Gibson („Braveheart“) als Milliardär mit Allmachtsfantasien, Charlie Sheen („Two and a Half Men“) als US-Präsident sowie Pop-Diva Lady Gaga als verruchte Gangsterbraut. In weiteren Rollen sind u.a. Zumindest spielt Amber mit. Die Vegara nervt da aber schon recht arg...
