Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.

Neben Costner sind u.a. noch Jena Malone, Isabelle Fuhrman, Abbey Lee, Jamie Campbell Bower, Will Patton, Michael Rooker, Giovanni Ribisi, Jeff Fahey, Sam Worthington, Danny Huston, Luke Wilson, Thomas Haden Church, Dale Dickey, Kathleen Quinlan, Angus Macfadyen und James Russo mit von der Partie.

Chapter 1 startet im Juni 2024 in den Staaten, Chapter 2 im August.

Nach dem üblen Boxoffice-Ergebnis von Teil 1 wurde der US-Kinostart von Teil 2 nun erst einmal gestrichen.

Der erste Film erscheint in Kürze als VoD. Man will wohl schauen, ob der auf dem Wege eine breitere Zuschauerschaft anspricht, um dann zu entscheiden, ob Teil 2 doch noch einen Wide-Release in den Staaten bekommt...

Das finde ich halt immer tricky! Wenn ich schon weiß, dass das ganze auf drei Filme angelegt ist, schaue ich mir da jetzt ernsthaft einen ersten Teil an - der ggf. fatalerweise noch in einem Cliffhanger endet - und warte dann ein paar Jahre auf einen zweiten und dritten Teil? Ich persönlich ziehe da ja das abwarten vor und schaue mir dann die komplette Saga am Stück.

Interesse habe ich nämlich schon. Mir geht nur dieses Stückwerk auf den Zeiger!

Kevin will sich nicht geschlagen geben... obgleich ihm das Geld ausgeht... bzw. gerade schon ausgegangen ist...

World of Reel is now saying that Costner wishes to continue with the filming of chapters 3 and 4 of his saga. He has already shot nine days’ worth of footage on Chapter 3, but halted production due to lack of funds. Costner told NBC he is wanting to continue with filming chapters 3 and 4 back-to-back in the Spring of 2025.

“The plan is, I’ve already shot a little bit of the third. And to perhaps shoot them back to back next spring […] I love the journey of this thing. It’s been the hardest thing I’ve ever done, but I love this movie. I love the second one — and the third one’s even harder than the first two, and the fourth one completes the story.” (Joblo.com)

Ich glaube ja, wenn er das als (Limited) Serie realisiert hätte, wäre das Projekt irgendwie erfolgreicher! Den nichts anderes ist es ja eigentlich - aber das passt halt irgendwie nicht fürs Kino! Obgleich die Landschaftsaufnahmen auf der großen Leinwand sicherlich spektakulär aussehen.
