Da ich mich ja zwischenzeitlich ernsthaft mit dem Gedanken getragen habe mir die 120 AUD$ teure Imprint-Veröffentlichug von G.I. Jane zu bestellen, hab ich mich - glücklicherweise - noch mal etwas mit dem Release beschäftigt! Der scheint sich nun leider als ziemlicher Rohrkrepierer herauszustellen.
Initial gab es ja die Hoffnung, dass Disney seinen Backkatalog für weitere Labels öffnet - wie z.B. Warner in UK mit Arrow Video oder Universal in Deutschland mit Turbine Medien. Das stellte sich jedoch als falsche Hoffnung heraus und der Film wurde aufgrund einer komplexen Rechtelage wohl von Resurgence Media lizensiert - die auch andere Imprint-Titel in ihrem Katalog haben.

Dieser Hinweis wurde von Imprint bei der Produktbeschreibung mittlerweile entfernt. Wie sich herausgestellt hat, wurde "nur" ein Internegativ (IN) für die Veröffentlichung/Restauration verwendet, was drei Generationen alt ist; Original Kameranegativ (OCN) -> Interpositiv (IP) -> Internegativ (IN).
Das für sich wäre jetzt noch nicht so schlimm. Leider ist aber auch noch das Framing extrem beschnitten und so fehlen vor allem links, unten sowie rechts wesentliche Bestandteile des Bildes! Das Ergebnis kann man sich bei Caps-a-Holic ansehen, wenn man das Vollbild vergleicht. Angeblich fehlen 18 % des Bildinhalts.

The reference materials provided for this remaster may not be the same source that was used for the previous Blu-ray release. We carefully matched the approved reference supplied to us from the studio, which differs from the Blu-ray master that is being compared to.
For this transfer, the distributor provided a 35mm internegative (IN) as the source element. Ideally, we would have preferred to work from the original camera negative (OCN) or an interpositive (IP), but those were not made available for this project. It is possible, and perhaps likely, that a different element was used for the Blu-ray release.
Because different film elements can carry slight variations, comparisons between releases are not always one-to-one. In some instances, our master contains slightly more image area side-to-side, while there may be differences top-to-bottom depending on how previous versions were sized or matted.
Regarding the grading, there are some scene-to-scene color balance differences when compared to the Blu-ray. Color can be subjective, and our work was matched to the provided reference.
wolfman Als Bonus wird es zahlreiche neue Interviews unter Anderem mit Ridley Scott, David Twohy ... geben. Außerdem wurde auch vom Trailer ein neuer 4K Scan angefertigt.
Fällt bei den obigen Problemen kaum noch ins Gewicht, aber die neuen Interviews mit Ridley Scott und David Twohy wurden sang und klanglos gestrichen und auch den neuen 4K Scan des Trailers gibt es nicht!
